Antique French Mystery Clock Circa 1875 by A.R.Guilmet Black Marble Table or Mantel Clock
A beautiful French Antique Mystery Clock from the Victorian era. Standing on a black marble base the woman stands tall at 29.25 inches from the ground. Brilliantly detailed holding the pendulum as it swings and clasping a bail of wheat. The body stands on gilt decorated feet with centre floral shielded plinth with the dial just below the pendulum swing. The body features gilt ring carrying handles to either side. The Dial features black marble with gilt roman numerals incised into the 4 inch stone dial. The 8-day movement has an outside count wheel striking, chiming the hours and the halves on a bell.
Mystery clocks from this era achieved a world wide reconnection and sprung fascination due to the fact that there is no apparent connection between the pendulum and the movement. The statue may even be lifted off the clock as it has no apparent connection to it. The big mystery was how it kept running and in time.
Designed in Paris Circa 1875 by A.R.Guilmet. Over the years Guilmet took out patents for his mystery clocks first in1867, then 1872 and 1874. Serviced and running with key. A perfect gift or addition to any collection.
