A rare Scottish satinwood drumhead longcase clock by Wilson & Sharp of Edinburgh, dating to circa 1900. Richly decorated with painted neoclassical motifs including floral garlands, ribbons, and classical female figures, the finely proportioned case features a drumhead top, long panelled trunk door, crossbanded base, and splayed bracket feet.
Wilson & Sharp traded from 139 Princes Street, Edinburgh between 1895 and 1900, having previously operated as Morton & Wilson before later becoming part of Mappin & Webb.
The signed 8-inch silvered dial, set within a cast brass bezel, has Roman numerals and a strike/silent lever above XII. The reverse is engraved "No. 5".
The high-quality 8-day weight-driven four-pillar movement is signed on the backplate and was purpose-built for this clock, with round plates designed specifically to fit the drumhead case. It is fitted with maintaining power and a deadbeat escapement for improved accuracy. The original pendulum with brass bob and brass-cased weights remain present.
The interior is finished with polished mahogany, reflecting the quality throughout. The trunk door retains its key, the bezel is push-close, and the original winding key with turned wooden handle is also included.
A particularly attractive and uncommon example of late Victorian Scottish clockmaking.
