A Fine Victorian Drumhead Longcase Clock by P. McFarlane & Sons, Glasgow – Circa 1870
This elegant example of a drumhead longcase clock—a distinctive Scottish design popular in the 19th century—features a circular dial mounted in a rounded hood, often seen in finer clocks from the region. This particular piece was made by P. McFarlane & Sons, a respected Glasgow firm of watchmakers, goldsmiths and jewellers established in the early 19th century. Peter McFarlane operated from 10 Argyll Street as early as 1841, with his sons joining the business by 1870, the likely date of this clock’s manufacture.
