The name "Luckenbooth" comes from the Scottish words for "locked booth," as the brooches were originally sold in locked booths on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. The brooches were often given as gifts to symbolize love and loyalty, and they were also believed to offer protection against evil spirits. A perfect gift or addition to any collection.
